Mothman Sightings Surge in Appalachian Hollows
Witnesses describe a towering winged figure with glowing red eyes along an isolated stretch of the Ohio River. Local law enforcement has logged over a dozen reports in three weeks.
For three consecutive weeks, residents along the Ohio River have reported encounters with a creature that fits a familiar and unsettling description: a humanoid figure standing nearly seven feet tall, with massive folded wings and eyes that burn an impossible shade of crimson.
The first report came from a night-shift worker who pulled over on Route 2 to check a suspected flat tire. According to his written statement, he saw the figure rise from a thicket of dead oaks, unfold wings spanning what he estimated at twelve feet, and lock its gaze on him before silently lifting into the air.
Since then, reports have multiplied. A retired schoolteacher. Two teenagers fishing after dark. A long-haul trucker who claims the creature paced his rig for nearly a mile. The accounts share eerie consistencies — the red eyes, the leathery wings, a sound one witness described as 'a record being played backward through a long pipe.'
Cryptozoologists caution against drawing conclusions, noting that the original Point Pleasant sightings of 1966–67 were never conclusively explained. They also note that the region sits atop abandoned coal works and is prone to unusual acoustics. Still, the consistency of the new reports has drawn researchers from three states.
