Stretching between Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico, the Bermuda Triangle has swallowed ships, planes, and people without a trace for over a century. Despite decades of investigation, the truth behind these vanishings remains elusive.
The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devils Triangle, encompasses roughly 500,000 square miles of ocean where an unusual number of vessels and aircraft have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. One of the most famous incidents occurred on December 5, 1945, when five U.S. Navy TBM Avenger torpedo bombers known as Flight 19 vanished during a routine training mission. The last radio transmission from the flight leader indicated his compasses had malfunctioned and he could not determine their position. A PBM Mariner flying boat sent to search for the missing aircraft also disappeared without a trace. Other notable disappearances include the USS Cyclops in 1918 with 309 crew members aboard, and the SS Marine Sulphur Queen in 1963. Proposed explanations range from methane gas eruptions and rogue waves to more speculative theories involving electromagnetic anomalies, temporal vortices, and even extraterrestrial activity.
