A seemingly innocent wine cabinet purchased at an estate sale unleashed a wave of misfortune, illness, and terror on everyone who owned it. The Dybbuk Box became the internets most infamous haunted object.

The Dybbuk Box first came to public attention in 2001 when it was purchased at an estate sale in Oregon. The cabinet, a small wine box with ornate carvings, supposedly contained a dybbuk, a restless malevolent spirit from Jewish mythology. The original owner reported experiencing a series of terrifying events including horrific shared nightmares, health problems, and the smell of cat urine and jasmine flowers emanating from the box. Each subsequent owner reported similar phenomena. The box was eventually sold on eBay, where its legend grew as each new owner documented their experiences online. It was later purchased by Jason Haxton, a medical museum curator, who wrote a book about his experiences. The box was eventually sealed and buried, though some believe the entity within simply found a new home. The 2012 horror film The Possession was loosely based on the Dybbuk Box legend, further cementing its status as one of the most notorious allegedly cursed objects in modern paranormal history.
